Lake Pertobe consists of three lakes; Main Lake, Mill Lake and the Children’s Lake. Each lake is connected to ground water and has several inputs.
The Children’s Lake receives water from play space overflows and localised storm water (Pertobe Road). It is connected to the Main Lake by a one way overflow pipe.
The Main Lake receives water from the reflection pond overflow, localised storm water and the Children’s Lake. It is connected to the Mill Lake by a one way valve and stop boards. These boards are added or removed by hand to control the water level and water flowing from one lake to the other. In summer boards are added to keep water levels high and in winter boards are taken away to lower water levels.
The Mill Lake receives water from the Main Lake and stormwater including three large pipes from further up the catchment. This includes the central business district and as far north as Albert Park. It is connected to the Merri River by a one way valve and stop boards.
